The Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority, in conjunction with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has granted approximately $170,000 to Rockland Community Against Hunger (RCAH) for the purpose of recovering and distributing food to those in need. The lead agencies of RCAH include BRiDGES, Meals on Wheels of Rockland, Rockland Jewish Family Service and TOUCH (Together Our Unity Can Heal). The grant awards will provide these agencies with storage and new vehicles to recover food throughout the County and distribute it to those in need.
This initiative has been in the planning stages for several years and can finally come to fruition through this generous grant. RCAH will be working in the coming months to outline the details of a collaborative structure to recover food and distribute it to support more than 40 Food Pantries and Feeding Programs throughout Rockland County.
RCAH Food Recovery Program
Raises OVER $6,000
RCAH, through our lead agency TOUCH, we have successfully completed a fund raising campaign thru CrowdRise, the largest crowdfunding platform for good.
We thank everyone who so generously gave to this great program raising over $6,000!!
These funds will help recover more food so that more Rockland food pantries and feeding programs can provide additional healthy food to those in need.
On Wednesday, September 6th, Rockland Community Against Hunger coordinated the annual Hunger Awareness Soup & Bread Luncheon at the Haverstraw Community Center. Working closely with the Marion Breland and the Haverstraw Collaborative, this event was a major success!
The event focused on using recovered food in the spirit of the new RCAH Food Recovery initiative. Special thanks to BRiDGES for taking the lead in bringing this event together, and to Meals on Wheels of Rockland for providing an amazing vegetable soup! Recovered produce was donated by Catholic Charities Community Servies and TOUCH. TOUCH also provided addtional recovered produce to be distributed at the luncheon for the benefit of the community.
Thanks to all for a great event!!
6 years ago, TOUCH - Together Our Unity Can Heal, worked with the North East Regional Food Bank & the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley to establish a mass distribution of FREE FOOD to local Rockland food pantries and feeding programs. Since that time, TOUCH and several other key agencies, including Rockland Jewish Family Service and People to People, have worked to distribute over 3,000,000 pounds of healthy food to member food pantries and feeding programs in Rockland. This program, known as Get Fresh Rockland, has helped 30 agencies provide over 200,000 meals a month!
